Truancy Emergency Safer Division

The Truancy Emergency Safer Division (TESD) is a dedicated unit focused on addressing and mitigating truancy issues. Its primary objective is to ensure the safety and well-being of students by actively monitoring school attendance, intervening in cases of unexcused absences, and collaborating with families, schools, and community resources. TESD aims to reduce truancy rates, identify underlying causes of absenteeism, and implement supportive measures to help students remain engaged in their education and avoid risks associated with being out of school unsupervised.

About Us

Tonga's formal education system began in 1828 with the establishment of schools by the Wesleyan Mission, preceding the widespread conversion of Tongans to Christianity. The Mission maintained control over nearly all primary education until 1882, when the government assumed responsibility for the educational system. However, in 1906, missionary organizations were again permitted to open their own schools.
